Clinical Physician

ROLE
The clinical physician is a member of the Clinical Services Team and works closely with team members and host and partner organizations to ensure the provision of the highest quality of health care services to clients/patients.
SKILLS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Requirements for this position include:
o Medical degree and residency from a recognized university.
o CCFP Certification from the Canadian College of Family Practice or RCPF from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
o License to practice from the Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons.
o Knowledgeable about the principles and application of harm reduction strategies
o Five to ten years experience in a community-based primary care setting.
o Expertise in providing health care to an inner city population
o At least 2 years’ experience working with homeless individuals.
o Experience in contributing to participatory evaluation research.
o Commitment to the education of future health professionals
o Willingness to conduct research studies
o Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and (oral communication skills in French are considered an asset).
o Strong interpersonal skills.
o Commitment to and knowledge of community-based health care.
o Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
o Sound judgement.
ACCOUNTABILITY
The Clinical physician is directly accountable to the Medical Director on matters related to Ottawa Inner City Heath, Inc and through him/her/them to the Chief Executive Officer. As a member of the Clinical Team, the incumbent is responsible to the team and to other team members for the fulfilment of job requirements in an appropriate manner. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining the licensing and regulatory requirements of the College of Physician and Surgeons of Ontario as the professional governing body.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The clinical physician works closely with team members and host and partner organizations to ensure the provision of the highest quality of health care services to clients. In this capacity, the employee:
o Ensures the design of clinical protocols, which are effective and appropriate to the inter-organizational nature of this project.
o Supports nurses and nurse practitioners working in an expanded role to provide safe, appropriate care to clients of the program
o Provides clinical supervision to members of the clinical services team and supervises students.
o Contributes to the design of training and orientation modules; acts as a resource within training sessions as appropriate.
o Facilitates collaboration with other service providers, professionals and organizations, particularly those involved in working with clients.
o Facilitates and supports appropriate team learning, development, case conferencing and debriefing.
o Provides client-centred primary care to clients delivered in a respectful, appropriate manner and which accords with the needs and wishes of the clients and within the principles adopted by the Ottawa Inner City Health.
o Performs clinical duties by seeing, examining, assessing clients for routine health and illness care, prescribing treatment and appropriate care.
o Provides services on an outreach, on-site, walk-in, appointment or on-call basis as determined by client needs and scheduled programs and services of Ottawa Inner City Health and makes home visits as necessary.
o Acts in an ethical and professional manner in accordance with the guidelines of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, the Canadian Medical Association, the Canadian College of Family Practice and the policies and standards (written and unwritten) of Ottawa Inner City Health .
o Provides clinical advice and support to the nurses, nurse practitioners and other practitioners as required to ensure the best possible quality of care to clients.
o Works in partnership with other members of the Clinical Services Team to share responsibility for planning, provision and coordination of client care.
o Ensures appropriate, comprehensive treatment is delivered by maintaining complete and accurate medical records.
o Maintains and develops professional competence through appropriate continuing education methods (i.e. peer interaction, literature review, conferences, courses, staff development leave).

Compensation
$118.89 - $139.87 per hour
